Treasure City Events Policy
Introduction
- Part of our mission is to provide a space to support community organizations and projects. Uses of this space include: educational free skill-share classes, cultural events, workshops, meetings, films, discussions and fund raisers.
- Treasure City Thrift (TC) is not responsible for promotions or any event staffing.
- Keep in mind that TC is a retail space and might not accommodate your group. Please come look at the store before planning your event. The capacity is generally up to 50 people at any given time.
- All commercial sponsorship of events MUST be approved by the TC collective in advance. Do not make any commitments without talking to us first. Examples would include product donations, advertising and use of logos on banners, flyers, posters and other promotional materials.
Proposals
- All events need to be proposed, sponsored by a TCT collective member, and approved by the entire collective. If you do not personally know someone to ask, you can ask for a sponsor when you present your proposal.
- We recommend that you propose your events a month or more in advance to allow adequate time to both present at a Collective meeting and then promote your event.
- To make a proposal, fill out the proposed event form here or submit a written proposal at the store. Please be sure to follow up with a TC collective member as we will give you an answer either way.
Cost of using the space
- Free educational classes, workshops, events, and community organizational meetings: free (We appreciate if you will make an announcement at your event asking for donations for TC.)
- Sliding-scale workshops: 20%
- Benefit Fundraisers: $25 or 1/3 of door, (whatever is less) To be considered a benefit, a significant amount of the profit must be going to support a group/ program whose work benefits the greater community.
Some Basics
- There is no smoking in the building
- Hours: Events must start after store hours, generally 6pm
- You are responsible for payment of any thing you break.
- Please remember that TC is a small space filled with merchandise and may not be an appropriate venue for many types of events.
Responsibilities of the Organization
- Promotion
- Set-up of the store for the event, which may include moving furniture and other store items.
- Working the door
- Security throughout the entire event: be sure our neighbors, and space are respected. People should be not be drinking in the street or on the surrounding properties.
- Deposit: $100 for broken/stolen items and damages
- Alcohol: It is illegal to sell alcohol. Therefore it needs to be either: Free or.... redeemable for tickets sold
- A volunteer needs to dispense it, checking IDs. People need to be of age!
- Alcohol must be consumed responsibly! Do not be afraid to cut people off! (Responsible drinking and the intensity of security are directly related.)
- Make sure there is at least water for non-drinkers.
- People should not drive home drunk - have volunteers monitoring people leaving.
- We encourage alcohol-free events.
- Clean-up must be done by 10 am the next day. Your sponsor will go through the clean-up checklist before you leave. Make sure your volunteers understand they will be needed after the event too!
Cleanup Checklist
- Clean up and sort all garbage/recycling (we will provide you with bins for recycling)
- Things need to be put back if moved including chairs
- Cigarette butts need to be picked up out of driveway.
- Sweep, and/or mop- especially if alcohol served
- Make sure your volunteers understand they will be needed after the event too!
