Yellow Bike Project
Note: as of July 1st, the shop at Treasure City Thrift, 1720 E. 12th Street, will become the temporary main YBP shop until the new headquarters are built.
As part of our commitment with Ecology Action and Yellow Bike Project towards Zero Waste and Landfill Diversion, Treasure City provides space for a satellite Yellow Bike Shop. This is a free educational facility open to anyone who wants to learn about fixing and riding bikes. They don't fix your bike for you; instead, they show you how to fix it yourself. This shop is run and organized by Yellow Bike, so please direct your questions to them!

About the Yellow Bike Project
The Austin Yellow Bike Project (YBP) is a community supported ALL-VOLUNTEER 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing human-powered transportation for the people of Austin, running a community bike shop, and educating kids and adults. People-power is a way to limit the traffic congestion of a rapidly growing city. It also provides a sane, inexpensive, and sustainable alternative to the reliance on motor vehicles. Our project promotes cleaner air, land, and water, while encouraging people to meet their transportation needs through an active lifestyle and community participation.
History of the YBP Satellite Shop
January 27th, 2007 / HUMAN-POWERED SHOP MOVE: the contents of the Wheatsville satellite shop were stowed and transported on roughly 40 bicycles, tricycles, bike trailers, panniers, and backpacks to the new Treasure City shop. In only 2.5 hours the entire contents of the shop had been packed, transported 3 miles (view map), and unloaded at the new shop. It is inspirational what 40 people with a few pedal machines can do in so little time. Deepest thanks to all participated in making the move possible.
Megan, who helped with the move, made an excellent video chronicling the event. Thanks, Megan.
March 23, 2007 / GRAND OPENING OF NEW LOCATION: Lovers of community and biking rejoice. The Yellow Bike Project is opening a new shop at Treasure City Thrift (1720 E. 12th St.) In honor of their grand opening, they will be celebrating this Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The first two hours of the event will focus on youth and bike safety and... match local kids with donated bikes, as well as locks, helmets and light sets. June 1st, 2008 / TREASURE CITY SHOP BECOMES THE (TEMPORARY) MAIN SHOP! The 51st street shop will close by the end of June and shops at that location will now be be all-volunteer. Find out more about why we are moving. We won't have a big warehouse shop space again for at least 6-12 months. You can work on Treasure City location and we'll be gradually expanding our hours and parts storage capacity to support that.
June 21, 2008 / HUMAN-POWERED SHOP MOVE #2: 2.4 miles, 11 years of bike parts... At 10am once again we will attempt to move a Yellow Bike shop with human power. We will be moving every bike, bike part, tool, and work stand in the 51st street shop to our new site at 1200 Webberville Rd. Some of you might wonder why we would torture ourselves with a feat like this when several of us own trucks that would make the task much easier. The answer is that 1) we like bikes and 2) we plan on having a great time doing it. So meet us at the 51st Street shop at 10am with your bicycle, tricycle, bike trailer, panniers, backpacks, bungie cords, or anything else you think might help out.
Move was successful with all your help! View the KVUE video here.
