Treasure City Thrift
SEPTEMBER NEWS

Treasure City Thrift is a collectively run thrift store that is dedicated to transforming waste into resources that benefit our community. We also seek to provide alternative strategies and environments for the Austin community to learn about horizontal and consensus based organizing.

<><>Everything is a Dollar!<><>
This Sunday, Sept 5, 12-4pm:
Four hours, everything in the store is on sale for one dollar -this is not the rejects, but the best new stuff: clothes, housewares, cds, dvds, furniture, electronics, -all of it. We’ve got to get a little crazy sometimes to maintain our reputation as the cheapest and best thrift store in town, and we really need to clear out some space for piles of new items. You will want to arrive at 12 sharp to get the best stuff.

<><>and that evening<><>
Join Monkeywrench Books and members of Treasure City Thrift for a discussion on the global trade system and how we can empower ourselves to build sustainable and just alternatives to corporate globalization. In addition to the discussion, we will be screening a documentary "China Blue," which takes viewrs inside a blue jean factory in southern China
At Monkeywrench Books 110 e North Loop, at 7pm.
Followed by a second screening and follow up discussion/demonstration at Treasure City on September 12th. Stay tuned for details.

<><> 2 for 1 clothes, accesories<><>
For the next 2 weeks, look for clothes, shoes, bags, scarves, belts and hats to get two for the price of one. You can mix and match items -anything with a red tag.

<><>So much new stuff!<><>
A few exciting examples
-like-new black hoodies
-a plethora of collectible owls
-a superman cape
-two sewing machines
-a big wall mirror
-a lot of glue
-a hand painted watermelon shirt
-and one screenprinted “the revolution will not be casual”

A few things we could really use for the store right now:
-a working, not too old PC for our accounting.
-a backup drive
-blank 8 1/2 by 11 paper
-free ad space/volunteers to flyer for us

Interested in what Free Trade would look like if it were for real? Know someone who needs a whole new wardrobe but doesn’t have any cash? Check out the Free Market at Chestnut Community Park. Sunday, September 26th, 1-4pm.

<><>Worker Coop Alliance<><>
Did you know that there are many democratically run and worker owned businesses in Austin? Are you part of one that we haven’t met yet? The newly formed Austin Worker Coop Alliance is meeting monthly to discuss the challenges and rewards of running a business without a boss.
